What Terry Gets Up To In His Spare Time, Part II

In my last installment we looked at two of Terry’s primary duties - Taxi for the Little Helpers and being a mobile tool-shed.  Of course Terry has many other duties....

iPhone Cover Load Tester
Not an intentional role at all, but on one occasion I dropped my phone whilst removing a stick that had been caught up under Terry. A few kilometres down the road I realised I didn't have my camera, not even realising at this point that my iPhone wasn't in my pocket either.  I returned to find the camera unscathed by the side of the track, but my phone was lying face down with a dirty great Cooper STT tyre print running right over the top of it.

I thought my shiny new iPhone's days were over, but full credit the the Otterbox Impact cover – the phone escaped with nary a scratch, and eighteen months later it is still going strong!

Firewood Collector
Our house is heated with 100% renewable, ecologically friendly firewood, collected from a nearby farm. Terry hauls an empty trailer to the farm and watches by whilst the trailer gets filled with timber.
Terry occasionally gets bored watching the trailer fill, but has not yet run away to play with the sheep that also live in the paddock. The kid helpers however are another story, finding all sorts of mischief to play in. Occasionally the pooch (aka Chicken Killer) comes along and harks back to her wolf heritage playing in some filth that beggars description (ignoring the sheep that are several times bigger than her). Needless to say she always gets her hydatid tapeworm tablet when we get home.

Turf Leveler / Landscaper
When we bought our house, it had a dam in the front yard from a former life as a horse paddock. It never held water for more than a day or two, and was more an eyesore and snake hollow that any real water storage. We filled the old dam in, however the topsoil was rather lumpy.

Uncle Simon lends a hand

Again Terry to the rescue with sleepers tied to the back, a few laps and the surface was much smoother.

Of course any landscaping would not be complete without hiring a trencher...  Dingo diggers are so much fun!

And whilst I have long argued that we should plant little rocks and water them, Jo is convinced that we need to put large rocks in situ.  Terry again comes to the rescue hauling loads of rock from a nearby quarry.
The advisors look on as the real work occurs out of shot!

Toy Hauler

Before Matilda, our camper came along we owned a beautiful little sailing dinghy OMEGA ONE.  Unfortunately OMEGA ONE did little more than sit in the driveway, occasionally getting washed, before returning to her home under a tarpaulin.  Eventually we decided that if we were serious about camping, we would have to sell the boat.

Something had to give before we could buy a camper trailer!

Terry also hauls a trailer of tools for a renovation weekend.

And sometimes we just go for a drive...
Would you believe that sometimes we just go for a drive / picnic.
Terry gives Son of Trails Plus a go last year

And we visited Thredbo for a day trip in Winter.
In all, we find that it is rare for Terry to use a full tank of fuel without towing something, pulling something or getting dirty.  The fact it doubles as a comfortable family hack is a bonus!
